Kempsville Elementary School - Mrs. Hedley's Third Grade Class

Mrs. Hedley’s third grade class is very excited to share Flat Stanley’s adventures with you. Stanley was born and raised in Kempsville Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Kempsville’s mascot is the Indian and our school colors are orange and blue. Our community is made up of different military families, because there are many military bases in and around Virginia Beach. Stanley has adapted well to being a third grader due to the 22 great role models who are students in our classroom. Kempsville is one of fifty-six elementary schools in the Virginia Beach school district. We have nearly 500 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school also houses a pre-school program for developmentally delayed/handicapped pre-school children. Please visit our web site to learn more about the Kempsville Indians!

Our Stanley is very active and he loves adventure. Not only does Stanley like to play sports such as basketball and football, he also likes to watch sports. One of Stanley’s favorite teams to watch is the New Orleans Saints football team (even though the Washington Redskins are very near to our state). On the weekends he likes to go to the beach to swim and surf! He even acts as the surfboard from time to time! Stanley is a good reader and reading is his favorite subject in school. He has a large appetite and loves to eat french fries, ice cream sundaes, Chinese noodles, and chicken! However, Stanley has a nut allergy and cannot eat nuts of any kind! If his nut allergy wasn’t bad enough, Stanley has very bad air borne allergies that come from the pollutants in the air and his eyes water all the time! Stanley must wear his sunglasses around the clock to protect his sensitive blue eyes! Stanley lives with his one brother and sister and his parents who are actually quite pretty! He has a Goldfish named Crackers, a turtle named Toby, a parrot named Sir Talk-a-lot and two cats named Murray and Molly. Watching Sponge Bob and listening to rock music is something he also enjoys very much. Stanley is a very useful flat kid. He sometimes acts as a bookmark! Right now Stanley is packing and getting ready for his trip. We are going to miss Stanley, but we know he is in good hands with you. Have fun with our friend!

Stanley Visits Mrs. Conklin's Class at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School in Joplin, Missouri:

The class decided to let Stanley play in the sandbox so that he wouldn’t miss the beach so much. It was a little chilly, but they had fun!

Just letting you know we are mailing your Flat Stanley off to visit his next school in Pennsylvania. We had a great time having him at Thomas Jefferson. We also really enjoyed visiting with you last week. We were inspired by your school song. We decided we would write one for our school. At least we can sing it. Who knows, maybe the school will like it enough to adopt it. We are sending you some of Stanley's extra costumes, a copy of our city newspaper, and his t-shirt he received at "Joy Filled Critters." We did not want them to get lost along his journey. We told him you'd keep them safe until he returned home. We are also sending you some pictures by email. Have a great year. Sincerely, Thomas Jefferson Third Grade and Mrs. Conklin
